This is my entry for the Strange Behavior challenge.

The idea is that genetic engineering has enabled trees to become a new source of oil and petroleum and are cultivated for that purpose. Unfortunately due to other genetic changes they have also become more effective at protecting themselves from predatory humans...

I didnt have a fixed idea of the story but let the concept develop in stages as new ideas occured or were suggested by others.
